As part of their daily work, many health staff have to deal with high-risk situations from the point of view of managing physical or mental threats. In such situations when they or the people around them find themselves being threatened with violence, it is essential they understand the right physical and mental attitudes as well as basic skills needed to control the situation.
Total security does not exist but effective security -- the sum of means, protocols, skills and experiences -- can give the professional the ability to adapt and be prepared at all times to anticipate and deal with any situation of crisis with maximum efficiency and professionalism.
For any system to be comprehensive, it must safeguard the physical, psychological, legal and employment integrity of any member of the healthcare team as well as patients and third parties. The AIPS system gives professional response options to health personnel with a clear and easy to understand theoretical basis.
The AIPS philosophy is based on preventing aggression and minimizing violence with the lowest possible risk for all parties involved, using natural and instinctive reactions of the human body.
This system aims to simply translate these impulses into professional reactions that ensure effective biomechanical control. AIPS is conceived as a system of preventive versus reactive protection and it’s objective is to avoid physical damage to both healthcare staff and the patient and companions.
